Gaarriye

Maxamed Xaashi Dhamac (1949–2012) began his professional life as a teacher, later working at the Academy of Culture in Mogadishu and finally as a lecturer in Somali literature at National University. Among his major intellectual achievements is the articulation of the metrical patterns of Somali poetry. Even as a young man in the 1970s he was considered one of the most important Somali poets and one who was unafraid to use poetry as a vehicle for engaging in the politics of Somalia.
